Starting in November 2007, the economy has steadily sunk deeper and deeper into a recession. Jobs are being lost, the stock market has hit lows it hasn’t seen in over a decade, and the new housing sector is all but extinct. This recession has put many companies on the brink of disaster. Where business us to be so plentiful that they couldn’t keep up with it, now just a single job would be acceptable. I couple of my brother-in-laws both work for the same concrete pumping company. One of them is the son of the owner while the other is simply an employee. 2 years ago they were each doing 5 or 6 jobs a day. And so were the other 10 drivers they have. Now, in the month of January 2009, the whole company only 6 jobs. The brother in law that is not the son of the owner has not worked for 3 months simply because the work is not there.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the exception in today’s market, it is the norm. However, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Surprisingly, there is still plenty of work for companies such as this to have. Construction Lead Journal offers weekly leads in 31 different markets in the western united states. This economic downturn we now face will get rid of the dishonest and unfair and make the construction market, and all other industries, free of most of the companies that have been hurting our reputation and image over the last few years.
